The Northeast 115
Two,three and four
Upper WolfJaw, Armstrong Mt and Gothics Mountain.
Personally speaking this hike was of my all time favorite hikes and probably the hike that got me hooked with the outdoors. This hike was the start of my long journey.
Me and my best friend returned the Adirondacks again to attempt to climb Gothics, Upper Wolf Jaw, and Lower Wolf Jaw. Ambitions and emotions were high as this was our second time in the Adirondacks. We started the weekend with an early 3Amdrive up to St Huberts parking lot, driving from Western mass. We got the parking lot around 6am and by 6:05 AM we were on our feet. Our route for this plan was to start via Lake road way until we met the trail junction by Wedge brook. There wasn’t enough snow for snowshoes and at the time at lower elevation there wasn’t a lot of snow. As we increased our elevation we started to see more and it even started snowing.
The first mountain we would step foot on would be Upper Armstrong. We started to encounter a trail full of ice. The ice had slowed us down a bit but with traction we were able to continue. When we had reached Lower Wolf Jaw we were greeted by a slight snow fall and light winds. We were able to see what we had climbed last time we were up here. We continued our way onto our goal to climb Gothics mountain. Being around this snowy environment for the first time was absolutely breathtaking. It was also the 2nd time I’ve been above treeline. After fighting and climbing our way up ladders and icy terrain we were greeted again by a rocky summit at Armstrong. We were able to witness a winter background with many snow covered Highpeaks within view. We pushed on to Gothics we were met with strong heavy winds howling at the summit. This would be me and my friends first time experiencing a – 14F Windchill. When we got to the summit we were greeted by a 360 degree winter background of the entire region. Still to this day it is one of my most cherished moments. We made our way back down via the trail by beaver meadow falls, we then linked up with Lake way road for a long hard packed path full of dirt back to the lot.
It was a long cold day but happy with what we had accomplished we knew we would be back very soon, and with better gear.
Please enjoy the Pictures and videos but again feel free to comment and give feedback.
Happy trails
